A note from Corey's teacher

I just wanted to let you know how Corey was doing in class.
For the most part he is doing very well.
I am having to adapt almost everything we do so that he can do it.
He tries very had all the time.
There are sometimes when he doesn't want to do the work, but I tell him that everyone else is working so he has to too.
Yesterday he got his trip ticket marked.
In the morning I told him he needed ot bring his math book with him when he went to see Ms. Lemon.
He told me that it was Tuesday and he did not need it.
He had to come back later to get it.
I told him that if he had listened then he would not have had to come back.
When he went to the restroom before lunch with a couple of other boys, he was talking in the restroom and he was telling them he was the boss because he was older.
We talked about not talking in the bathroom and not being the boss of someone else.

(he did not get in trouble for this ...just a little story!) After lunch he told me he wsa ready to go home.
I told him that the school day was not over and he had to stay until the end of the day like he normally does.
Then he told me he missed his dog.
So I said that I am sure your dog misses you and she ( I was corrected from he to she!) will be there when you get home.
Then he was fine and got in line!
Today he did his work well and participated well in class.
Today he got to play a predicting outcomes game with some other students.
While they were playing he stuck the die in his pants.
I told him that he should not have done that.
He told me he would not do it again.

I told him he could no longer play the game and he told me that was ok because it was not his favorite game anyways!

Hope you are doing well!

Today is his first day riding the bus both to school and home.

He should be home in a few minutes.

He made it home. And crossed the street with no incidents!

Corey update

Had his IEP yesterday. Everything is set for him to ride the bus Monday morning. I think his new school is a good fit. He is happy Corey again he comes home from school excited about his homework and wants to do it. He is excited to tell me about his day.

We will talk to the teacher in 2 weeks to review how he is doing on the reg ed bus and make an adjustment if needed.

OH I am 7 classes from being done at school, getting my AAS in Accounting. I have scheduled it out and the last 7 classes are all web classes. I should be done in September 09.

My pants fell down

while I was carrying a clothes basket down the stairs just now.

OF course I had my cell phone in the pocket so the weight helped a little bit but.....

I have lost 15 lbs. And I was able to wear a pair of old jeans today.

Corey had a wonderful day at his new school....

He was up at 5 am to catch the bus at 7:25. He was excited to ride the regular ed bus.

I told you the bus was my biggest worry right?

Well seems his IEP states that he is serviced by SpEd Transportation. The new school was not allowed access to his IEP until YESTERDAY. So the new school had no idea what his IEP stated and although I asked SPECIFICALLY to the old school about his IEP and transportation I was told no problem This is how it is done.

So legally this afternoon they could not put him on a bus to send him home. It will take about 7 days to be assigned a new SpEd bus, but he is so excited about being on the regular ed bus with his brother that I hate to take that away from him.

So I asked if we could have an IEP meeting or sign something to change his transportation. The Asst. Principal we met with today was very helpful and has us an IEP meeting with her and the teachers for Friday morning. So we have to provide transportation this week. And hopefully next week all will be well.

I havent even gotten to mention about volunteering to the teacher yet. But I am definitely going to do that.

Corey is enrolled

I am not sure why. The teacher he will have has no special ed experience. The resource teacher is only in the school 1/2 a day. I don't know what is going to happen but we are going to make the best of this that we can.

Today is the day....

Corey's last day in the education setting he has known for over 3 years. This morning will be his last time on the Special Ed bus and he will be riding the bus with Kyle. I am not worried about how he will do academically but the transition from the bus to class and class to bus scares me to death.

I am not sure how he will get from the bus to his class nor from his class to the bus. I have voiced my concerns with the school and I am sending a note via Kyle to the bus driver this morning. The school is going to see if someone in his class rides his bus and IF there is they will be his bus buddy. If not I dont know what we will do. I hope we can get Kyle to help but I dont want him to miss out on any academics going on in his class. And I dont want them to miss the bus together.

With my work schedule and Brian on the bike there is no way we can run pick him up when he misses the bus.

I pray all this works out.

My dog Hershey

Greets me at the door when I get home. She is always happy to see me. She tolerates Corey hanging on her. She is always in the room I am, following me. If I pet the cat she gets jealous and comes over to get petted too. I love my silly dog.
